Friday, 11 December 2009

The 2010 Victorian Football League Fixture is now available on line with Box Hill Hawks scheduled to play seven of its nine home games at Box Hill City Oval on Sunday.

The Hawks kick off the season at home on Saturday 10th April against Werribee Tigers and then face two consecutive away games against Geelong (in an AFL Curtain Raiser) and Coburg Tigers (on Anzac Day) before hosting reigning back-to-back VFL Premiers North Ballarat on Sunday 2nd May.

The club then travels to play 2009 Runners Up Nothern Bullants on Sunday 9th May (Mothers Day) before a mouth-watering home encounter against traditional foe Port Melbourne on Saturday 15th May. This game may well be chosen by ABC Television for its Match of the Day coverage and therefore may start an hour earlier than printed, so please keep an eye on the website for any fixture announcements.

Following a week off for the WAFL vs VFL State Game, the club again has back to back road trips to Williamstown and Casey Scorpions before hosting Bendigo Bombers on Sunday 13th June 2010 for the annual Queens Birthday Clash between these two sides.

The team will then relish its final weekend off for the split-round before hosting Collingwood on Sunday 27th June during the AFL Split Round. With Hawthorn enjoying the weekend off and Collingwood playing in Sydney, a large crowd is expected to flock to Box Hill City Oval.

An historic encounter awaits the following week when Box Hill meet Gold Coast for its first ever encounter in Southport during the School Holidays and then face Northern Bullants for the second time in 2010 on Sunday 11th July at home before yet another double whammy of away games at Sandringham and then Frankston for the East Link Cup.

The club then enjoys three of its remaining four games at home playing Casey Scorpions on Sunday 1st August (on a weekend where Hawthorn have been interstate on two consecutive weeks), Geelong on Sunday 8th August and arch-rivals Williamstown on Sunday 22nd August. In between the games listed above,

Box Hill's penultimate home and away game of 2010 involves a trip down memory lane to play Collingwood on Saturday 14th August at its spiritual home, Victoria Park. Box Hill has only ever played four games at Victoria Park with the last visit in 1994 (a heart-breaking Grand Final loss to Sandringham) when the VFA used the ground as a finals venue.
